Adding Xsan Clients to a Stornext Environment

Charles Edge has a great how-to for adding an Xsan client to a Stornext SAN here:

This will get you setup if you have no clients on the SAN, and frankly its probably the “right” way to do it. But there is a quicker way if you already have some Xsan clients attached and you just want to add more.

First things first, go to the existing client and grab the config files. If the client is 10.6 (or 10.5) you’ll grab the config files at /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config
For 10.7 Clients you’ll grab the config files at /Library/Preferences

For 10.6 Clients
enter the serial number into the file:
/etc/systemserialnumbers/xsan
(if this file doesn’t exist you can create it. Its a simple text file without the .txt on it)
Put the config files in:
/Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config
(Don’t replace the UUID file, this is unique to each machine)

launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.xsan.plist
xsanctl mount SANNAME

For 10.7 Clients
Put the contents of the config folder into /Library/Preferences/Xsan
(Don’t replace the UUID file, this is unique to each machine)

Go to System Preferences > Xsan and click Start Xsan.
Your volumes should appear and you should have the SAN properly mounted.
